The Death of the Duke
Your shot is true! The Duke’s single eye opens wide, a crystalline tear rolling down his pale cheek, as he stares longingly into your face.
“Know this,” he breathes, collapsing around the smoking hole in his chest, that smoulders as his eye had lately smouldered, “I did… truly… love you…!”
And then he bites it.
With all the swift yet graceful movement of the European swallow, you re-enter the corridor. Using the espionage skills taught to you by your royal mother and her former faithful retainer, you discover a secret panel that leads to a secret launch bay. Your brother-in-law Francoque and his sister, the ex-pirate Mica’elle, have shown you how to ready a personal flyer for launch by yourself, and you escape the station with a skill that might make even those celebrated pilots applaud as loudly as if they had seen someone they loved do something very impressive.
The universe awaits, and perhaps your true love and/or loves await within it! In your holo-rearview mirror, you barely notice the explosion of the space station, blown to sparkling sparks by mercenaries.
